Gaza Blockade: “I Feel This Time We Might Not Be Able to Survive” Amid Escalation
Amid the Gaza blockade, the Qur’an reminds us of our duty to stand up for the oppressed.
“And what is [the matter] with you that you fight not in the cause of Allah and [for] the oppressed among men, women, and children who say, ‘Our Lord, take us out of this city of oppressive people and appoint for us from Yourself a protector and appoint for us from Yourself a helper?'”
— Surah An-Nisa (4:75)
As the Gaza blockade enters its most brutal phase in 2025, the humanitarian situation in the region has deteriorated rapidly. With Gaza under siege from all directions, civilians—especially children—are suffering the unimaginable. Israel has announced a full land, air, and sea blockade, cutting off food, fuel, water, electricity, and humanitarian aid.
At Children’s Aid, we are on the ground supporting affected families and advocating for urgent humanitarian access. The crisis has entered a new, terrifying chapter.
“I feel this time we might not be able to survive,” said a teacher sheltering with her children in a UN-run school. “There is no food, no water, and nowhere safe to go.”
Gaza Blockade: A 2025 Crisis Reaching a Breaking Point
As the Gaza blockade tightens in 2025, the healthcare system—especially facilities dedicated to children—is on the verge of total collapse. With fuel supplies completely cut off, hospitals no longer have electricity to power essential medical equipment. Neonatal units, which rely on incubators to keep premature babies alive, are dark and silent. Ventilators and dialysis machines sit idle, not due to lack of expertise, but because there is no power to run them.
Basic medical supplies have also run out. Doctors are being forced to make heartbreaking choices—deciding which child gets the last dose of antibiotics or who is treated first when sterile tools, anesthesia, and pain medication are gone.
The impact is devastating: thousands of children are now at risk of dying not from direct conflict, but from the silent consequences of isolation, medical scarcity, and power outages. The Gaza blockade has effectively turned pediatric care into a battlefield where survival is no longer guaranteed—not because of a lack of doctors, but because the outside world has cut Gaza off from everything they need to save lives.
What Life Looks Like in Gaza Right Now
Our team in Gaza has reported that
–Schools have turned into overcrowded shelters, housing displaced families with no sanitation facilities.
–Children are going days without food. Bread and canned goods are nearly impossible to find.
–Airstrikes have destroyed entire neighborhoods, including schools, playgrounds, and hospitals.
–Internet and mobile networks have been cut off in large parts of the Strip, isolating families from the outside world.
–Water crises in Gaza: There is an extreme water shortage in Gaza—people no longer have access to clean drinking water. The Gaza blockade has shut down water plants and supply lines, putting lives at serious risk.
“This is no longer about war. This is about survival. The gaza blockade is silently killing us,” said a humanitarian worker we spoke with.
Children Suffering Under the Gaza Blockade
As a children-focused relief organization, Children’s Aid is especially concerned about the mental and physical toll on Gaza’s children. Many have been orphaned or displaced, and most have experienced trauma that will take years to heal—if they survive.
Due to the blockade:
Children can’t access vaccines or emergency care.
Pregnant women have no access to hospitals.
Babies in NICUs are at risk of dying without power.
Delivering Hope in a Sealed-Off Zone
Our dedicated children’s aid team is working in Gaza, distributing water tanks and hot meals like pasta to families in urgent need. Recently, a person in Gaza messaged one of our team members, saying, “We have nothing to eat; we’re surviving on lentils.” Along with this, we deliver emergency food kits, water purification tablets, trauma relief kits, and warm bedding for children. We also provide remote counseling and advocate worldwide to end the Gaza blockade and reopen humanitarian corridors. To help more people, we urgently need unrestricted access.
Global Silence Is Not an Option
The international community must act now. Gaza cannot survive under complete isolation. The Gaza blockade is not only a humanitarian crisis—it’s a violation of international law
“We’re watching an entire generation being wiped out—not just by bombs, but by hunger, trauma, and abandonment,” says one of our field coordinators.
