The Infinite Love of Allah (SWT) Surrounds Us

Allah’s love is omnipotent and all-encompassing, surrounding every aspect of life. It is the foundation of all creation — from the vast universe to the tiny living beings. Allah’s love is pure, infinite, and unconditional, a love bestowed on all His creations irrespective of whatever their status or condition might be. In contrast to man’s love, which is conditional and limiting, the love of Allah is steadfast, unshakeable, and marked by mercy. All the air we breathe, all the blessings we enjoy, and all the moments of peace are manifestations of Allah’s unlimited love for us.

In this article, we are going to learn what it actually means to feel and know Allah’s love from the quotes of Hadith and Qur’an. We will also learn how we can attain and appreciate this love in our lives, aware of its ability to transform and guide us in hearts and actions. In the process, we will also learn how we can demonstrate Allah’s love to other individuals through charity, kindness, and helping poor people.

What Does the Qur’an Say About the Love of Allah?

The Qur’an, the last book of revelation to Muslims, is replete with verses that express Allah’s love  for human beings. The love of Allah is not a decision but comes with some behavior and traits that are actual demonstrations of submission, repentance, trust, and faith. Some unique Qur’anic verses below illustrate the love of Allah and under what conditions the love of Allah is given:

1. Allah Loves Those Who Rely Upon Him

“Indeed, Allah loves those who rely upon Him.”
(Surah Aal-Imran, 3:159)

This ayah enhances the fact that Allah is pleased with those people who place all their matters into Allah’s hands and leave it at His discretion. Tawakkul, or belief in, forms part of the Muslim believer. It involves putting the matters in the Wisdom of Allah. Particularly during trouble, whatever happens must be in the hands of Allah. Allah’s affection for the believers who have faith in Him is a lesson for us that in spite of our troubles, our hearts should remain firm in faith in our Creator.

2. Allah Loves Those Who Repent and Purify Themselves

Indeed, Allah loves those who turn back and purify themselves.

(Surat Al-Baqarah, 2:222)

This ayah brings the topic to the purging of Tawbah (repentance) and purification in Islam. Allah is drawn to such hearts that repent unto Him in every action and pray for forgiveness for sin and wickedness. Repentance is a virtuous act that cleanses the heart and brings the individual closer to Allah. By admitting our faults and asking for forgiveness, we are the recipients of Allah’s love, forgiveness, and mercy. Repentance is not only asking forgiveness but also having a heart to leave sinning in the past and being spiritually strong.

3. Following the Path of the Prophet (PBUH) brings Allah’s Love

“Say: If you love Allah, then follow me (the Prophet), and Allah will love you and forgive your sins.”
(Surah Aal-Imran, 3:31)

This ayah obviously sets the relation between loving Allah and loving His Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). This is an obvious invitation to adopt the practice of the teachings, life, and commands of the Prophet, the best possible example of conduct for all Muslims. Allah promises His love and forgiveness upon those who truly love Him by following the path of the Prophet.

What Did the Prophet (PBUH) Say About Allah’s Love?

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) has explained Allah’s love so magnificently through numerous Hadiths. Perhaps the most astute one of them is

“Whenever Allah wishes to confer His love on a servant, He calls Gabriel and says: ‘I loved such-and-such a slave, so lovingly regard him.’ Then, Jibreel loves him and announces to those in heaven, ‘Allah has loved such-and-such a slave, so regard him dearly.”

(Sahih al-Bukhari)

This Hadith beautifully shows how, when Allah loves someone, that love spreads far and wide — even into the heavens. First, Allah loves the person. Then, the angel Jibreel (Gabriel) also loves them. After that, all the angels love the person. Even the good and righteous souls in the heavens begin to love them.

Being loved by Allah is to be endowed with His favor and mercy, not only here in this life but also there in the Hereafter. For us to have this love, we should conduct our lives righteously according to the order of the Qur’an and Sunnah. All of us, let us do du’a for us to become among those that are loved by Allah.

Signs That Allah Loves You

The following are the signs Allah loves you, in points:

Guidance to Prayer: You are called to pray even when you are tired or busy. This is Allah calling you to Him.

Remorse After Sin: When you sin and you feel sorry about it over your heart, it is a sign that Allah is calling you to Him and asking for forgiveness.

Compassion to Others: You serve humanity even when you do not speak, because Allah has planted mercy and compassion in your heart.

Patience at Persecution: You experience persecution but remain close to Allah because He tests those whom He loves as part of His effort towards purifying and strengthening their faith.

Yearning for the Qur’an and Du’a: You long to be close to the Qur’an, to make du’a, and to associate with righteous people, showing a fervent spiritual nearness to Allah.

How to Earn the Love of Allah

To acquire the love of Allah, do the following:

Sincerely Follow the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH): The first and foremost thing to acquire the love of Allah is to follow the life of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) sincerely and imitate his life pattern in your life.

Make Sincere Tawbah (Repentance): Plead for sins, be forgiven by Allah, and promise to rectify your paths. Penitent and humble individuals are cherished by Allah.

Giving in charity (Sadaqah): A few or plenty, giving in charity cleanses your money and inspires Allah’s affection towards you. It could either be monetary contribution or helping other people in terms of little things.

Treat Others with Kindness and Humility: Allah is pleased with humble and kind people when they treat others. Treat other people with dignity, kindness, and mercy.

Pray in Secret: You should do noble deeds in private — like praying silently when no one is watching — because true sincerity is shown when only Allah sees your actions.   Those are your secret worship times that demonstrate your true love for Allah.

“My servant draws near to Me through supererogatory deeds until I love him…” (Sahih al-Bukhari)

Through these deeds, you are approaching Allah, and by approaching Allah, you are achieving His love.
