Qurbani in Conflict Zones: A Lifeline of Hope and Humanity
Qurbani in Conflict Zones: A Lifeline of Hope and Humanity
Qurbani in conflict zones is a powerful reminder each year during Eid al-Adha of Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) unwavering belief and readiness to sacrifice for the sake of Allah. More than that is the spiritual lesson, however. There is also a practical responsibility — to give away our good fortune to those who are not so fortunate. As millions of Muslims everywhere celebrate Eid with festivities and banquets, millions besieged in war-torn areas and devastated lands spend this holy festival starving, in terror, and in despair.
Here at Children’s Aid, through the country-head leadership of Shoaib Intesar, we strive to provide Qurbani meat and Eid joy to the needy families — families displaced from their homes by war, stricken by natural disasters, or trapped in poverty and famine.
Reaching the Unreachable: Our Areas of Operation
Children’s Aid Qurbani program extends far into regions where assistance is low and hope dwindles. Our teams labor to provide meat and Eid gifts in:
1. Gaza & Palestine
At the epicenter of an extended humanitarian crisis, Gaza families still suffer crippling shortages of food, medicine, electricity, and clean water. Blockades and bombings have driven daily life to mere survival. Eid is but another day of struggle for many. Our teams make sure Qurbani meat finds its way to displaced families, widows, orphans, and the most conflict-affected.
2. Bangladesh (Including Rohingya Refugees)
More than one million Rohingya refugees reside in crowded, dirty camps in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. Some have escaped violence and persecution with nothing more than the clothes they wear. For these stateless individuals, Qurbani meat is a precious source of sustenance and a reminder that they are not forgotten by the international Muslim ummah.
3. Kenya
Severe drought and economic turmoil have led to extreme hunger across much of Kenya. Pastoralist communities have lost their herds and means of livelihood. With our Qurbani distribution, we are able to offer protein-rich meat to malnourished children, elderly men and women, and struggling mothers — the only meat they receive in months.
4. Pakistan
Pakistan is still being affected by floods, food shortages, and inflation that disproportionately hurts the poorest. Our Qurbani work in rural villages, flood-affected regions, and city slums restores dignity and celebration to families who might otherwise miss out.
Beyond Meat: The Full Eid Experience
At Children’s Aid, we take the view that all children, particularly those growing up in regions that are crisis-stricken, should be able to celebrate Eid al-Adha with dignity and joy. That is why, in addition to making Qurbani in conflict zones, we also provide well-prepared Eid gift packs to orphaned and disadvantaged children. The gifts comprise new attire, school bags, educational materials such as schoolbooks and pens, and recreational items such as footballs and toys. These are not merely presents to many children in war-damaged or disaster-stricken regions—these are tokens of love, affection, and belongingness.
As one Yemeni child beneficiary stated, “This is the first time I received a new Eid dress. I will never forget this day. Thank you for making me special.” By taking these steps, Children’s Aid turns Eid holidays in conflict regions into a period of joy and spreading the actual spirit of philanthropy among orphans and humanity’s mercy and compassion throughout the Muslim world.
The Challenges We Face—And Overcome
Distributing Qurbani in Conflict Zones
- Security Threats: Delivering Qurbani meat in conflict areas such as Gaza and Yemen means working under perpetual risk, keeping aid workers and beneficiaries safe.
- Infrastructure Breakdown: Damaged roads, no power, and no cold storage facilities make Eid Qurbani supply chain logistics very challenging.
- Import Restrictions: Where there are livestock shortages in a region, we have to import animals across borders—overcoming permissions, legal barriers, and logjam bottlenecks.
- Economic Volatility: Inflation and increased livestock prices call for robust donor support to ensure steady Eid relief activities.
Yet, despite these hurdles, our mission never stops. With faith, determination, and the support of generous donors, our Qurbani meat reaches families in time for Eid — fresh, hygienic, and with dignity.
A Global Act of Compassion with Local Impact
