Children of Gaza—How 12 Months of Bombardment Has Impacted a Generation

As we commemorate one year since the violence in Gaza escalated, the Children of Gaza are living through one of the most severe humanitarian crises of our era. With bombs dropping, houses reduced to rubble, and futures robbed, the youngest and most vulnerable victims have been hit hardest. Today, they require our attention, compassion, and immediate action.

A Year of Horror: The Reality for Gaza’s Children in 2025

Gaza has been a nightmare since October 2023 — and particularly for children. Over 17,000 innocent children have been killed by constant airstrikes. Over 24,000 children have been left orphaned, their families being ripped apart within seconds. Thousands remain missing, buried under rubble that was once their homes.

With more than half of Gaza’s 2.2 million residents being children, this isn’t merely a war zone — it’s a childhood lost. These kids aren’t merely living through war — they are being molded by it, raised with trauma rather than toys and sirens rather than lullabies.

Orphaned and Alone: The Pain of Losing Family

The children of Gaza are experiencing unimaginable loss. As entire families are decimated instantly, thousands of child victims of Gaza are rendered orphaned, shunted into crowded shelters, or into the care of distant relatives who are already fighting to survive in war-torn neighborhoods. These war-affected children in the Palestine region have not only lost their parents—they’ve lost their homes, a sense of security, and their childhood.

“Every night, my little brother cries for our mom,” 10-year-old Noor explains from Khan Younis.

“But she’s not here. Our home’s not either.”

Each day, more Palestinian kids in distress in Gaza are added to an ever-increasing list of the displaced, traumatized, and bereaved. These kid victims in Gaza are not merely surviving conflict — they are developing within it.

Displaced and Forgotten

The Children of Gaza have been displaced time and again — mostly displaced at least four times in the last year. With houses reduced to rubble, families currently occupy tents, overcrowded shelters, or the open air, with no access to clean water, food, or electricity.

Almost 1 million children are stuck in such deplorable conditions, experiencing hunger, dehydration, and having no access to medical care. As the situation worsens, these Gaza displaced children risk being forgotten by the world.

A Silent Famine

Gaza children are now experiencing a fatal hunger crisis. With famine imminent, they are the first and worst affected. Almost 1 in 2 children under five are severely malnourished. They go days without eating, and clean drinking water is now a far-off dream.

These are not statistics — they are actual Gaza children, weakening day by day, trapped in a crisis where thirst and hunger are as lethal as bombs.

Injured and Untreated: Medical System Collapse

Can you imagine the pain they endured? Hospitals bombed. No medicine. No safe place to recover. Thousands of injured children are dying waiting for assistance.

More than 6,000 now survive with war-induced disabilities. Hundreds urgently require surgery, prosthetics, and trauma care — but the system doesn’t work.

The mental wounds are just as deep. Some are now too traumatized to speak, sleep, or even play.

No School. No Safety. No Future.

Over 625,000 children in Gaza have not set foot in school since the start of the war. Over 80% of schools are damaged or destroyed. Generations of children are maturing without schooling, without childhood, and without hope.

“Just want to go back to class,” laments 12-year-old Amina. “I miss laughing. I miss my friends.”

The Psychological Wounds Are Deep

The children  of Gaza are bearing hidden wounds that can never be cured. The majority now bear open signs of PTSD, and several no longer hope to live beyond their teenage years.

Smiles have disappeared. Laughter does not exist. For these children, hope has become a fading memory, taken over by permanent fear and doubt.

This is greater than a body crisis — it’s an outright mental health crisis of an entire generation. These wounds could persist a lifetime unless Children of Gaza  get the help they so desperately need right now.

A Global Call for Help: Save the Children of Gaza

The Gaza crisis is not merely a political crisis—it’s a humanitarian crisis, particularly for the Children of Gaza. They did not want this war, but they are suffering the greatest cost. Gaza children are going hungry, falling ill, experiencing trauma, and being displaced.

Now it’s time to act. Your contribution has the potential to give hope to these children once more. With your help, through emergency food, clean water, life-saving medicine, counseling for their psyches, and learning materials, you are providing them with hope for a future after this war. We can, together, create a positive difference and provide a new life to them.
