Eid in Gaza: Helping Children and Communities in Need
The Struggles of Gaza Amid Conflict
While the Muslim world is gearing up to celebrate Eid, in Gaza, it is dire. The ongoing Israeli-Palestinian war has resulted in an unprecedented humanitarian crisis. At least 50,000 Palestinians have been reported killed since the beginning of the war on October 7, 2023, as per Gaza’s health ministry. Women and children constitute most of the dead, and thousands more are listed as missing under the rubble. The Gaza health system has collapsed, and the food shortages have driven parts of the enclave into famine.
The Impact on Children and Families
Gaza children are the worst hit by the crisis. The health ministry said more than 15,000 children under the age of 18 have been killed, including hundreds of babies. Children are left orphaned, homeless, and traumatized by the constant bombings and destruction. With schools destroyed and restricted access to medical care, their future is becoming more uncertain.
Humanitarian Efforts During Eid in Gaza
In spite of the grim situation, humanitarian agencies are intensifying their relief efforts. Local and international NGOs are making efforts to distribute food, medicine, and psychological aid to children and families. Numerous charities are trying to distribute Eid gifts, clothes, and food to bring a smile to the lives of children in Gaza. The conflict and limitations on the delivery of aid have, however, made relief efforts more difficult.

The Need for Global Solidarity
Eid is a time of giving, charity, and kindness, making it the perfect opportunity for the international community to come together and support the people of Gaza in their time of need. Charities, relief agencies, campaigns making awareness, and demonstrations calling for a ceasefire are important steps towards helping the victims. The international community and the governments must also try harder on the diplomatic front to bring the war to a halt and provide delivery of assistance as safely and feasibly as possible in Gaza.
Recent Developments in the Conflict
Israel recently resumed its military campaign in Gaza following a temporary ceasefire, resulting in one of the bloodiest days since the war started. Over 400 Palestinians were killed in a day as airstrikes increased. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz declared intentions to widen military action and establish security zones in Gaza, further raising tensions.
The ceasefire talks have been stuck, with Hamas demanding the full withdrawal of Israel in return for the release of hostages. Israel, however, says that Hamas turned down several mediation offers. Meanwhile, the humanitarian crisis deepens, with only scant aid reaching affected people and hospitals struggling to operate under intensive shelling.
